St Albans Bowls Club clinched a 22-13 win over Harpenden in the district triples competition.

Pauline Gardiner, Maggie Kendrick and skip Doreen Gray steered their side to victory over Liz Bradley’s team.

The ladies played their second triples league match of the season against Harpenden.

The home team was Gardiner, Joyce Wilson and Gray who won 34-13.

The away side was Marjorie Knight, Carole Ewer and Diana Tribe who lost 20-16 as St Albans won 4-2 on points.

The midweek men played Northaw & Cuffley with their opponents winning handsomely 123-58.

St Albans fared better on the next day when they played Radlett in a mixed match, winning 51-47.

The top rink was Sybil Steers, Knight, Tom Banfield and Jim McGregor 25-17).

Three St Albans teams played their first round of the St Albans & District Bowling Association Pair’s competition. Alan Brittain & Ken Budd lost 20-12 to Townsend’s Carl Robinson.

Ted Salvidge and John Bartlett lost 24-18 to Hatfield’s Joe Darling.

Alan Turner and Dave Church went down 30-16 to Harpenden’s Dave Brooks.

In the district officer’s singles Ken Budd beat Fred Mulberry of Townsend 21-14 in the first round only to lose in the second round to Welwyn's Norman Muller 21-20.

St Albans picked up a 79-75 win over Batchwood in their friendly.

The top rink was Noel Godman (loaned from Batchwood), Alan Turner and Dave Church (22-15).
