Harpenden’s Tony Redford reached the area final of the national senior singles with a 21-12 victory over Mark Yelland of Garston. Redford will now play Chris Sherriff of Welwyn and District, and the winner will qualify for the national championships at Leamington next month.

The district pairs are in the second round with Barrie Hills and Doug Hall winning their match, 27-10, against Mike Davis and Richard Lush from Hatfield. The game was conceded after the 18th end. Rick Catchpole and Colin Driscoll also won 22-8 against a Potters Bar team skipped by Mike Brennan.

Two Harpenden sides played each other in a very close game, which went to an extra end. The result was a win for John Taylor and Peter Hubball over Redford and Alan Bostock.

Linda Newby won the first round of the district singles 21-19 against Tricia Gascoine, finishing the last two ends in a deluge of rain.

In the preliminary round of the dstrict triples, Harpenden's Lyn Roberts, Avery Hills and Linda Newby lost 16-15, after killing one end and playing an extra one, against Shire Park’s May Gunn, Rose Gee and Ann Gunn.

The men’s team of Rick Catchpole, Doug Rodger and Colin Driscoll beat Clarence Park in a match conceded after the 15th end.

A friendly club game saw Harpenden beat Little Gaddesden 73-50. The top rink was Ishbel MacDonald, Diana Davies and Chris Poulter.

In other news, Rob Newby has been awarded his county badge. He qualified for it by playing six games in five years for Hertfordshire County.
