St Albans held a mixed triples round robin competition on Sunday.
The winners were the ladies captain Jacy Farrer, Richard Griffiths and Andy Thomas with the runners-up Pauline Gardiner, Colin Orchard and Nick Reynolds.
Tricia Gascoine played Harpenden’s Linda Newby in the first round of the district singles competition.
It was a very tight contest with the lead changing hands several times during the game. Gascoine won the penultimate end and led 19-18.
On the 26th and last end, Newby had two shots sitting on the jack and needing one more shot to win.
Gascoine made a valiant attempt to move the jack to no avail and Newby came in with her last bowl to win the game 21-19.
