St Albans ladies were beaten 44-33 by Potters Bar in the district double rink competition.

The home team lost 18-14 and the away side went down 26-19 as Potters Bar booked their place in the next round.

The ladies also played Potters Bar in the district midweek friendly league. This time the positions were reversed with St Albans winning 68-64. The top rink was Brenda Pitkin, Marjorie Knight, Eileen Englebright and Jacy Farrer (28-16).

St Albans played Harpenden in the district club rink league, winning 87-62. The top rink was Mike Jefferies, Robin Farrer, Tony Morris and Tony Rylands (33-12). St Albans gained 57 and a half league points to Harpenden’s 22 and a half.

In the county league, St Albans lost 54-29 to Townsend. The midweek match against Potten End also saw them beaten 88-68.

The ladies played Batchwood in the Friday district league.

St Albans won at home 22-18 with the team featuring Pauline Gardiner, Joyce Wilson and Doreen Gray.

The away side lost 18-12. Batchwood gained four points while St Albans picked up two.

In the district triples, Barnet’s away team won 24-14 while their home side beat St Albans 29-7.

Gardiner and Tricia Gascoine played May Gunn and daughter-in-law Ann Gunn at Shire Park in the district pairs competition. The game was nip and tuck until Shire Park picked up five shots on the 12th end and started edging away.

St Albans responded three ends later picking up three shots on two consecutive ends.

On the penultimate end the St Albans skip decided not to deliver her last bowl as they were holding two shots and there was a danger of giving the jack away with the score at 19-20.

St Albans claimed three shots on the last end winning the game 22-20 and will play Harperbury in the quarter-finals.

Members played on Sunday in a mixed competition in a tribute to David Gray who was captain in 2007 and a much respected member who loved his family and bowls.

The winning team was Clare Orchard, Englebright, Mike Jefferies and Peter Kay.

The David Gray Memorial Shield was presented to the team by Doreen Gray.
