Harpenden’s men’s and women teams will compete with the other districts for the county title after wins at the final stages of the South district league at Shire Park.

The ladies, who were represented by Dena Roberts, Linda Newby, Jan Holland and Linda Brooks defeated Welwyn Garden City in the semi-final 26-12. They faced Oakhill in the final and trailed by three shots before Brooks helped the team edge to a 17-16 win.

The men, represented by Noel Roberts, Rob Newby, John Williams, John Osborn, David Brooks, Tom Muir, Woodie Donoghue, Kevin Brazier, Tony Redford and Nick Muir, beat Potters Bar 58-29 in the semi-finals. Harpenden faced Welwyn Garden City in the final and won 44-18.

Linda Newby won her district semi-final game against Welwyn's Val Challacombe 21-8 to reach the ladies singles final.

The triples team of Jan Holland, Dena Roberts and Janet Hubball won their semi-final against a Potter Bar team led by Pam Rodgers as they look to defend their title.

Val Christiaans and Dena Roberts lost in a play-off in the Aussie pairs semi-final against a Hatfield pair of Jackie Bell and G Polley.

Pauline Taylor and Beryl Birch were beaten in their semi-finals of the officers singles and ladies singles respectively.

Harpenden held their annual gala with 54 players competing in a round robin tournament. Barbara Jeffrey was the winning lead with Harperbury's John Gilson second and the winning skip was Doug Hall. Ten-year-old Jamie Axon, the youngest club member, won the third lead prize.
