St Albans' William Laughton celebrated winning medals on his first appearance at the European Transplant and Dialysis Games in Poland.

Laughton had a bone marrow transplant two years ago and now represents Team Great Britain in their cycling events. He won both the time trial and the road race at the British Games along with bronze medals in the same events at the European competition which were held in Krakow.

Laughton, who hopes to compete in next year's World Transplant Games in Argentina, said: "I am delighted with my performance at my first European Games in cycling and to bring home two medals is awesome. Thanks must go to my brother for the bone marrow ‘upgrade’ and the Anthony Nolan register that was ready if he wasn’t a match. Without them I wouldn’t be here today."

Team GB won a total of 29 medals and joined competitors from 25 countries across Europe to compete in this year’s European Transplant and Dialysis Championship.
