St Albans Girls School’s Issey Turnbull finished second at the British Eventing competition at Keysoe Equestrian Centre.

The sport is made up of three separate challenges for each horse and rider in dressage, show jumping and cross country. Turnbull and her horse Nairobi Star succeeded in achieving a fine dressage test result of 25.5, a clear show jumping round and also a clear round in the cross country.

Her performance earned selection for the British Eventing Under-18 squad eastern region. Turnbull has also qualified for the National Saddle Centre BE100 Under-18 national championship final.

She said: “I am really happy; I honestly had no idea it was a qualifying event, it came as a complete surprise to me. I was aiming to get into the National BE team next year, so it has come a year earlier than I thought.”

The National Championship final will be held at the Festival of the Youth Weston Park International on October 12.
