London Colney battled to a 2-1 win at Stansted in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

The Blueboys will host Baldock Town in the first round of the competition on Saturday, November 1 after their hard-fought victory at the weekend.

London Colney almost got off to an ideal start but Spencer Clarke-Mardel's effort was blocked by home keeper Reece Paine in the opening minute.

Jimmy Hill then had a chance as broke away but his low drive was blocked by a defender and Dan Power swung over a great cross which Paine punched clear.

Paine also did well to block a Clarke-Mardel shot with his legs before visiting keeper Jack Smith kept out an effort from Tom Le Masurier.

Jack Blackaby broke clear for the hosts but with the goal at his mercy he fired wide.

But the Blueboys came even closer to the opener when Clarke-Mardel's diving header cannoned against the post.

Their pressure finally paid off ten minutes before the break when Clarke-Mardel was brought down in the area and Colney were handed a penalty.

Hill stepped up and fired into the bottom corner of the net for the breakthrough.

The visitors continued to attack and put the ball in the net through Sean Ridgeway but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Early in the second half Jack Isherwood had a header saved by Smith as he dived low to his right to hold onto the ball.

But the lead was extended after 65 minutes when a long kick from Smith saw Hill help the ball on its way for Russell Gallagher to skip around a defender and square the ball for Clarke-Mardell to fire past Paine.

It was nearly 3-0 but Shaun Murphy's header brushed off the foot of the post.

With only a minute to go Stansted pulled a goal back when Callum Turner bundled the ball over the line but Colney held on to advance to the next round.

London Colney Colts Under-15s edged to a 4-3 win over EBOG Eagles on Sunday. The Colts took the lead from a header by Alessandro Fardella only for the Eagles to equalise.

Fardella netted again after an incisive pass from Jake Riseborough before the opponents made it 2-2.

Harry Reeve put London Colney in front again but the Eagles levelled once more.

Conor McCallion clinched a dramatic win with the seventh goal of the game.
