Colney Heath Ladies romped to a 7-0 win at Watton Ladies in the first round of the County Cup.

The side travelled to Watton hoping to bounce back after last week’s disappointing FA Cup exit. They started the game brightly forcing Watton into their own half and gaining a few corners. The hosts started to get a foothold, but after winning the ball on the right side a delicious through ball from Megan Kiff found Sophie Joseph. Her initial effort was saved but she had the composure to find the corner at the second attempt.

Some tidy play from Colney was snuffed out at the edge of Watton’s box but after a scramble for possession it was 2-0 from a thunderous finish from Holly Sheridan. Colney continued to work hard and pass the ball well with Watton barely making it out of their half.

The few times Watton did manage to get into the Colney half, the defence was sharp and keeper Sasha Tucker was able to clean up without difficulty. Colney created a few further opportunities, twice stopped by excellent goalkeeping. A long throw from Kelly Hancock bounced inside the box and Molly Slade coolly dispatched a controlled volley after reading the flight of the ball perfectly to make it 3-0 at the break.

The second half began similar to the first with Colney controlling possession and creating chances. Kirsty Feasey battled valiantly through a couple of players and continued to pressure defenders which enabled Sheridan to pounce for their fourth goal.

Amber Charlton started the move for the fifth skipping past two challenges and setting Joseph away down the left side who had the vision and ability to pick out Feasey for an easy tap in.

Captain Lucy Hancock travelled through the middle before sliding in Sheridan who had beaten the offside trap and she rolled the ball past the keeper and into the empty net.

Colney Heath weren’t finished there as Sheridan netted her fourth of the game to complete a one-sided victory.
