New signing Elliot Bailey celebrated his London Colney debut by helping fire his new club to a 2-0 win at bottom club Ampthill Town in the South Midlands Premier Division.

The former St Albans City striker made a big impact for his new side on Saturday as he scored in an impressive performance for the Blueboys.

Bailey, pictured right during his Saints days, managed to rob the goalkeeper of the ball as he tried to clear the ball but Jordan McReuhnie quickly made amends as he cleared the danger to keep the visitors from scoring.

A lively display from Bailey continued as he struck a shot into the side-netting before quickly firing narrowly past the post.

Colney were looking a constant threat and Dan Millard was denied by a decent save from McReuhnie before his header flew right across the face of the goal.

Colney’s pressure was rewarded after 15 minutes with the opening goal. Martin Collins cut in from the left wing and set up Bailey for a neat finish into the bottom corner.

Bailey then turned provider as he set up Millard but his low cross-cum-shot whistled right across the face of goal.

Ampthill had to wait until the second half to have their first shot on goal but Sheldon Washington’s strike flew harmlessly over Dan Cohen’s crossbar.

The Blueboys, who are tenth in the table, deservedly extended their lead when Jimmy Hill latched onto a poor clearance from the ‘keeper and lofted the ball over him.

Colney went close again through Millard but his shot was saved by McReuhnie at the second attempt.

Danny Fitzgerald very nearly found the net but his curling shot was kept out by an excellent save.

It was a one-sided match and the only surprise was that the visitors did not finish with a bigger winning margin.
