London Colney edged to a 1-0 home win over Cockfosters in the South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

The visitors threatened early on and goalkeeper Jack Smith had to make a vital save to keep out a strike from John Cush.

Jimmy Hill had an opportunity late in the first half but his header flew wide of the post as the game ended goalless at the break.

James Ewington went close for the hosts after the restart but his shot was kept out by Luke Pierce.

Cockfosters still offered a threat on the break and Shane Bambridge was denied by Smith.

But the breakthrough came in the 75th minute from an unlikely source. Martin Collins sent in a pin-point delivery which defender Tom Massey could only head into his own net.

The visitors finished with ten men when Junior Adeoye received a second yellow card for pushing an opponent in the face.

The Blueboys had one late scare when Dan Millard’s free kick struck the post and rolled along the goalline but the hosts survivedto hold on for victory.

London Colney Blues defeated Oxhey 4-1 in the quarter-final of the League Cup.

Conor Bromwich, Luke Ossorio, Dave Townsend and Matt Drinkall found the net.
