St Albans Hockey Club’s men’s promoted Tribunes team fought back to defeat Stevenage Sixths 2-1 away in their final game of the season on Saturday.

The Eighth team had already secured promotion heading into their last match but made a slow start against Stevenage as the hosts took an early lead. It was only the third time this season the team had fallen behind in a match.

St Albans finally clicked into gear and started causing the Stevenage defence problems.

The side were eventually rewarded with a ball going across the face of the goal for Chris Foster to sweep it past the goalkeeper for the equaliser.

The Saints were much improved in the second half and the side took the lead when Nathan Murley released Matt Stevens and he diverted the ball into the net to complete the comeback.

St Albans could have easily extended their lead against Stevenage through George Turner but his powerful effort struck the post. Andre Hugo also went close for the Tribunes but his shot was well saved by the keeper.

It did not matter though as the club's newest team celebrated their promotion winning campaign with a hard-fought league victory.
