Townsend celebrated winning the first prize of the St Albans and District Bowls season after capturing the Maurice Watson Trophy.

There were 12 teams competing at Potters Bar with an initial draw deciding the pairings. Townsend went on to defeat Welwyn Garden City 36-8 with Hemel Hempstead in second place after defeating Harpenden by 11.

The Townsend team featured Robbie Ransted, Les Perkins, David Day and Peter Thomson.

In the top 10 tournament, Townsend travelled to Whithern and came away 74-63 winners.

Danny Macro led the way with a win in the singles by 21-16, followed by Carl Robinson, Ransted and Alan Charran’s excellent 23-9 score, and the fours, comprising Barry Robinson, David Day, Roger Potter and Peter Armstrong, who recorded a 19-11 victory.

Townsend earned a 91-46 win at Redbourn in a midweek friendly.

Peter Thomson’s team recording a 33-18 victory and Roger Potter’s group won 32-3.
