St Albans Bowls Club were beaten 63-36 in their county three fours inter club team championship match against Welwyn Garden City on Friday.

Despite a strong effort by the St Albans players they finished by drawing on one rink and losing heavily on the other two.

St Albans travelled to Townsend on Wednesday for their five rink match in the district league. The side lost on all four rinks with two suffering heavy losses. One rink lost 37 shots to five while the other was by 35 shots to nine. But the other two had a much closer game with both losing by only four shots after 21 ends each.

A team of six ladies played against a side from Shire Park at Tewin in a two rink triples friendly match and were victors on both with a combined score of 37 shots to 29. The top group consisted of Eileen Englebright, Marjorie Knight and Jacy Farrer with a score of 18 shots to 12.

St Albans also sent a team of 12 ladies to Hemel Hempstead in a friendly three rink triples match and won on all of them in a combined score of 54-26. The top rink was Sally Griffiths, ladies captain Carol Ewer and Eileen Cox.
