St Albans’ team of Pauline Gardiner and Tricia Gascoine edged to a 14-13 win over Harpenden's Pauline Taylor and Beryl Birch in the first round of the ladies national pairs competition.
The Harpenden team had a slender 13-12 lead going into the final end but Gascoine picked up two shots with her final wood to snatch victory.
St Albans men defeated Owls 60-57 in a four rink friendly.
The pick of the team were Ken Budd, Max Schroeder and Tom Banfield with their rink prevailing 26-8.
Ken Budd earned a convincing win over Rowley Lane's Malcolm Alcock in their district officer’s singles match.
His opponent conceded after 19 ends with Budd leading 21-10.
But Dave Church lost his singles match 21-20 to Welwyn Garden City’s Doug King.
St Albans were beaten 94-59 in their four rink mixed match against Townsend.
The men defeated Potters Bar 70-56 in a four rink triples match against Potters Bar.
The top rink featured skip Dave Church, Gordon Butcher and Bert Sumner.
St Albans claimed a 100-91 win over Northaw & Cuffley in their five rink mixed friendly.
The rink skipped by Steve Wilson and assisted by Maralyn Pomeroy, Sumner and club vice captain Bob Pomeroy (32-9).
