Former St. Albans City striker John Frendo is aiming for a play-off push having joined local rivals Hemel Hempstead Town.

The forward leaves Clarence Park after an 18-goal haul last season and, talking to Football Exclusives, has declared his ambitions following the move.

He said: “From what [manager] Dean [Brennan] has said I fully expect us to be up there. The club gave it a good push towards the end of last season and then they just fell short but I’m sure the aim will be the play-offs.”

The striker was on target 43 times for the Saints the campaign before last but is looking forward to linking up with new teammates at Vauxhall Road.

“With the way that Hemel play football, I believe it will suit my way of playing,” he continued. “It will help me score goals.

“Playing with [Oliver] Hawkins, who’s a big man who can score and create goals, I’m sure I’ll get the chances to score.”

Hemel Hempstead will be competing once again next season with St. Albans City in the National League South.
