Townsend Bowls Club edged to a 40-37 win over Potten End in the London and Southern Counties Shield.
The two Townsend rinks were Andy Bates, Dave Houghton, Gary West and Danny Macro; and Bob Lawrie, Roger Potter, Peter Armstrong and Andy Briden.
Townsend progressed in the Jones Cup at the expense of Hatfield. In a similar format to the Shield, one rink was played at each venue, and the away team of Alan Quested, Bob Lawrie, David Day and Potter were pipped on the final end when they conceded two shots to narrowly lose 19-17.
No such problems were experienced at home however where the four, of Les Perkins, Robbie Ransted, Peter Thomson and Houghton won 38-20.
In the county pairs, Thomson and Houghton advanced to the fifth round with a convincing 19-9 win over Rowley Lane, the match being conceded after the 16th end. They now face a pair from Datchworth in the out of division stages of the tournament.
