London Colney slumped to a 66-run defeat to Hitchin in Herts Division Five A on Saturday.

After winning the toss, Colney decided to put their opponents into bat and Hitchin managed to score 230 all out from 51.4 overs.

Matt Bristow was the most effective bowler returning figures of three for 37 and Tim Fretter also came away with three for 57. Simon Fretter also picked up two for 46 and there was one wicket apiece for Andy Cole and John Pinkham.

London Colney's reply was disappointing as a misfiring batting performance saw them dismissed for 164 in 38.1 overs.

Mitchell Bradley opened with 19 and A Fisher top scored with 42. Tim Fretter chipped in with 40 and Cole added 26 but the rest of the lineup failed to make a significant contribution as they fell short of the target.

Colney return to action on Saturday when they take on Hemel Hempstead Town Thirds.

London Colney Seconds were held to a draw with Cockfosters Thirds in Division Nine B.

The side reached a total of 206 for nine from their innings. It looked like it could be enough for the victory but Cockfosters narrowly avoided defeat finishing on 184 for eight.
