Townsend bowlers Danny Macro and Andrew Briden were part of the team which won the regional final of the Balcomb Trophy when they defeated the top two fours from Cambridgeshire in the final by 15 shots.

In the final they succeeded in scoring an eight shot maximum on one end - a "hot shot, " a feat which is almost unheard of at this level of bowls. The victory qualified the Hertfordshire team for the national finals at Leamington.

In the EBA two fours, Townsend welcomed Bishop's Stortford from the East Division, and managed to defeat them by 11 shots.

The rink of Alan Charran, Alfie Long, Gary West and Danny Macro, despite trailing by six shots with only three ends remaining, managed to draw 19-19. The other foursome, of Peter Thomson, Peter Armstrong, Dave Houghton and Andrew Briden led throughout, winning comfortably, by 23 shots to 12.

In the mid-week match, Welwyn and District were welcomed to Townsend, who managed to record a 53-41 victory and by two rinks to one. The top rink featured Richard Morgan, Wally Witham and Peter Thomson (19-10).
