Harpenden Bowls Club reached the area final of the national over 60s mixed competition after a two-shot win over Rosedale.

The rink of Colin Driscoll, Jan Holland, Linda Brooks and David Brooks came from behind to record a one shot victory and finished their game first.

The second rink of Dena Roberts, Jean Dill, Noel Roberts and Tony Redford built up a lead over the last few ends and went into the last one five shots ahead. Rosedale scored four shots on the final end however both Harpenden rinks won by one.

It means Harpenden will play away at Biggleswade in the area final.

Harpenden men enjoyed a successful visit to Potters Bar winning on three rinks, drawing on one and losing on the other for an overall 84-67 victory.

Top rink for Harpenden featured Tony Marriott, Tony Smith and Mike Haslam. The mixed friendly against Datchworth was less successful with Harpenden losing 103-88.

The only winning rink included Smith, Martin Wood, Dena Roberts and Beryl Birch.

In the mixed friendly triples at Little Gaddesden, Harpenden won on all four rinks for an 82-47 victory. The top rink was Jenny White, Roberts and Driscoll.

Two rounds of the ladies county singles took place. Lesley Tutt beat Gloria Fligman from Oak Hill and Lucy Ratcliffe overcame Nicola Coombes from Welwyn Garden.

Lorna Thomson defeated fellow Harpenden player Brooks 21-4. Thomson was then beaten by Tutt 21-10 in the next round while Ratcliffe defeated Hatfield's Helen Winch.

Brooks and Roberts are through to the final eight of the men’s county singles. Brooks reached it with a 21-6 victory over Townsend's Dave Houghton.

In the county unbadged singles competition, Val Christiaans and Val Thomson had good wins against their Shire Park and Clarence Park opponents. John Williams is also still in the men’s unbadged competition.

In the district pairs first round, Alan Bostock and Redford won 21-20 at Townsend against Alan Charran and Alfie Long.
