Townsend Bowls Club won their County West Division decider against Welwyn and District to book their place in the county finals at Rosedale.
Playing at the neutral venue of Harpenden, they dominated the play-off, winning on all three rinks and by 64 shots to 27.
The winning rinks consisted of Barry Robinson, Robbie Ransted, Peter Thomson and Danny Macro, who won by 23 shots to 12; Andy Bates, Roger Potter, Alan Charran and Peter Armstrong who recorded a 21-8 victory; and Bob Lawrie, David Day, Dave Houghton and Gary West, who won by 20 shots to 7 as Welwyn conceded after 15 ends.
In the District Fours, a Townsend quartet beat an experienced Harpenden team by 19 shots to 18, to book their semi-final berth. The match went to the final end when Townsend’s Mike Doherty, Barry Robinson, Bob Lawrie and David Day defended their two-shot lead to squeeze home.
That same one shot margin was also the difference between the teams in their London and Southern Counties Shield match against Barton-le- Clay. The home team - of Peter Thomson, Alan Charran, Dave Houghton and Danny Macro, won 25-16, but the away team dropped two shots on the final end to make the overall result a one shot defeat for the St Albans club.
