London Colney extended their unbeaten start to the season after a 2-0 win at Wembley in the South Midlands Premier Division on Saturday.

The Blueboys got off to a promising start and could have opened the scoring through Joe O’Brien and Lee Armitt but their efforts were saved by the goalkeeper.

Grigou Zulmatashuili was required to come off his line to thwart Spencer Clarke-Mardel and Armitt as they broke clear of the Wembley back line.

The opening goal came four minutes into the second half when a long ball from Tom Smith released Clarke-Mardel and he set up Armitt for a low finish into the net.

Wembley were then reduced to 10 players after Billy Smith received a second yellow card after a nasty foul.

Only excellent keeping from Zulmatshuili kept the scoreline down as the visitors pushed for a second goal.

The Blueboys doubled their lead when Armitt beat two defenders and pulled the ball back for Matt Standen to fire home from close range.

London Colney almost added a late third but O’Brien’s strike flew over the bar.

Their latest victory puts them third in the table and just one point behind the early leaders AFC Dunstable.
