London Colney moved up to second in the South Midlands Premier Division after battling to a late 1-0 win at Biggleswade United on Saturday.
The hosts threatened through Nyasha Sawete’s fierce drive which was pushed away by a fine save from Charlie May.
But the Blueboys were also dangerous going forward and almost opened the scoring through Greg Shaw but his header went over the crossbar.
The visitors were indebted to their goalkeeper when he managed to save an effort from Adam Drakulic.
London Colney won a free kick 25 yards out in the second half which Charlie Smith took and he curled it brilliantly around the wall only to see goalkeeper Adam Counihan push the ball away.
Jack Woods should have put London Colney ahead when he raced through on goal but he failed to find the net.
It looked like it was going to finish all square but the Blueboys were awarded a penalty when Jon Clements was brought down by Counihan. Shaw fired home the spot-kick to snatch the points.
London Colney are at home to Berkhamsted in the Challenge Trophy tonight and then host Great Yarmouth on the FA Vase on Saturday.
