Verulamians battled to a 34-25 home win over Barnet Elizabethans in Herts Middlesex One on Saturday.

Levi White opened up the scoring with two unconverted tries which Barnet replied with two penalties.

This was capitalised immediately upon by Adam Reece who broke through the Barnet defence to score near the posts.

Gareth Waters duly converted to stretch the scoreline to 17-6 but Vees then gifted the opposition a try.

The error then produced a five minute period of total possession at the end of which Ben Russell scampered in to increase Vees' lead to 24-13. A penalty was then added by Gareth Waters.

With the game virtually secured, Vees then drifted into an unexpected malaise where Barnet scored twice through their right wing to make it 27-25 to the hosts.

Russell then put the game beyond doubt as he shrugged off three tackles to score near the posts and seal the victory.
