St Albans Hockey Club Ladies were in fine form this weekend with the over-35s and the seconds securing places in the semi-finals of their respective national cup competitions.
The over-35s had a solid 2-0 victory against Wimbledon with goals from Liz Cleverly and Anne Marie Davenport.
The seconds fought hard against East Grinstead for a 1-1 draw after a goal from Jo Martin. This was followed by a penalty shootout, which the Tangerines won 3-1 thanks to three fantastic saves from goalkeeper Sarah Lavers and goals from Natasha Humphries, Victoria Trumpess and Lottie Simpson.
In Saturday’s league game, the ladies first team’s 1-0 win against Ipswich has put them second in the National Conference East League after Sarah Embrey scored.
The ladies seconds drew 2-2 away to Tunbridge Wells thanks to goals from Jo Martin and Annie Barratt. The ladies thirds beat Welwyn 4-0 with Liz Cleverly (2), Libe Fadrique and Vanezza Zabert the scorers.
The fourths won 2-0 against Leighton Buzzard after Sara Robinson and Gemma Little goals.
The men’s first team thrashed Havering 7-1 at Oaklands to move third in the East of England Premier League. Alex Stobbart (2), David Williams, Alex Spencer, Mark Lowden, Paul Cooper, Matt Davey scored.
A goal from Josh Rose helped the men’s thirds to a 1-1 draw with London Wayfarers, the men’s fourths won 4-0 against Bishop’s Stortford and the fifth team drew 1-1 with Luton Town.
A hat-trick from Robin Mobbs secured a 3-0 victory against Cheshunt for the sixth team and the Praetorians won 2-0 against Chelmsford.
