Harpenden moved up to fifth in London Two North West after a 29-8 win over Tabard.

The hosts partially erased the memories of their drubbing at Welwyn two weeks previously with a bonus-point win against strugglers Tabard.

The victory has given them a big confidence boost as they prepare to travel to second-placed Hammersmith and Fulham on Saturday.

Harps got off to a slow start, though, conceding a penalty converted by Jack Reilly after five minutes and then seeing Teddy Gough touch down on ten minutes to give the Radlett-based outfit an 8-0 lead.

From the resulting restart Tom Sweeney was able to pounce on the ball and touch down under the posts before adding two points with a successful conversion.

Skipper Michael Goode then went over for a try following a rolling maul before Sweeney, who had earlier converted the try, added a penalty to take the score to 17-8.

The start of the second half was a scrappy affair as both sides struggled to cope with the heavy pitch.

Harps were rewarded with a Bobby Tane try in the right-hand corner on 60 minutes.

After a period of sustained pressure, Ollie Mann danced through a gap in the defence to bring up the bonus-point try.

Flanker Ryan Gue, winner of the man-of-the match award, said: “This was a good win against determined opposition who never let up for one moment.

“Our game plan was to play it quick and wide whenever we could, and although we were a little sloppy at times, we showed great commitment.

“We will be working on a few things in training on Thursday and if we can improve our discipline, we stand a good chance of getting a result at Hammersmith and Fulham.”
