St Albans teenager Amy Platten continued her impressive form after winning the Under-18 British Championship by landing a bronze medal in the Spanish Eurocup.

The Under-21 nationals competition started badly for the 15-year-old when she lost in the quarter finals to a strong Azerbaijani player.

This meant that she had to fight through the repechage by, firstly, getting a Spanish girl to submit to an impressive armlock.

Platten then threw a determined Italian for wazari (seven point score) and controlled the rest of the fight.

For the bronze fight, she had to throw a very experienced Cypriot player with her trademark left-handed Uchi Mata for ippon.

Platten said: “It was hard to stay positive after losing but it made me even more determined to win the rest of my fights."

The ranking points gained now means Platten is ranked 11th in the world rankings. Amy was able to fight in Spain and stay for a European training camp due to crowd funding and an award from the 948 Sports Foundation.

Platten has a couple of UK ranking events before she flies to Croatia in March to compete in the European Cup.
