Verulamians eased to a comprehensive 37-7 win over Hillingdon Abbotts in Herts Middlesex One on Saturday.

Vees sit fourth in their league with Hillingdon one place below and now the points difference is stretched further after yet another bonus point victory.

On a cold afternoon both sides sparred for an advantage for some 25 minutes until Sam Allen was set free and cruised in for an unconverted try.

Hillingdon replied immediately by scoring under the posts to make the score 7-5 in their favour.

The Vees forwards gradually attained the advantage over the opposition and Dan Barnes stormed over for yet another unconverted try to make it 10-7 at half-time.

The hosts’ forwards then proceeded to muscle their way into many positive positions and Sam Townsend again broke the ice by scoring a try to stretch Vees’ lead to 15-7.

Verulamians were now on the front foot and with Alex Ricci putting in some blistering runs, passed twice to Ben Russell for him to canter in with the Hillingdon defence unable to keep them at bay.

An outstanding, dominant second half ended up in a 37-7 victory with Sam Allen providing the finishing touch.

This weekend the side travel to face a Barnet Elizabethans side currently ninth in the league table.
