St Albans Hockey Club Ladies Vets missed out on a place in the national over 35s final after a well-fought battle at Canterbury which saw the Kent team win the semi-final 4-1.

The goal from Julie McConnell was not enough to keep up the Tangerines’ cup run which included wins against Chelmsford, Bedford and Wimbledon.

Meanwhile in league news the ladies thirds earned an end-to-end 3-2 victory against Brentford at Oaklands on Saturday.

The home team went 1-0 down in the first minute of the game but came back with goals from Sarah Mobbs, Lou Akers and Vanezza Zabert.

The ladies seconds drew 1-1 with Bromley and Beckenham after Annie Barratt beat the keeper with an assist from Chloe Joarder.

The men’s seconds also came away with a point after drawing 2-2 with Reading while the fourths beat Hertford 4-2.

The fifths drew 1-1 with Bedford and the sixth team won 1-0 against local rivals Harpenden.

St Albans sevenths won 1-0 against Stevenage and the eighth team won 2-1 against Shefford and Sandy.

In the junior section of the club the boys Under-12s have won the Chiltern League Premier Division and also qualified for regional finals which will take place in April.
