Verulamians extended their unbeaten run to six games after a 38-15 win at Barnet Elizabethans in Herts Middlesex One.

The visitors ran in five converted tries as they maintained their recent form.

The pitch, waterlogged in parts made running and passing sometimes treacherous, though after a couple of early shared tries Vees’ forwards once again swooped on a loose ball and rucked remorselessly to gain control of the contest.

Inspired team selection in substituting James Hayes at wing forward for the injured Sam Townsend and bringing in Harry Mack at hooker ensured tight play and sharp tackling snuffed out Barnet’s attacks.

Sam Allen again scored two tries while Tim Rangihuna, Ben Russell and Cameron Craig claimed one apiece. Russell also produced a strong performance with the boot for Verulamians.

In the second half Barnet did not know what had hit them and the Vees’ forward and back interplay could easily have scored 50 points.

Verulamians seconds strengthened their position at the top of the Herts Merit table winning 14-7 at Cuffley with Bradley Bruce scoring their only try.
