Harpenden Town clinched fourth place in South Midlands Division One after a thumping 6-0 victory at Codicote on Saturday.

The win confirms Harpenden are eligible for the FA Cup next season with the bumper prize money that brings.

Town end the season with two home games including a celebration final match next Saturday against Risborough Rangers with free entry for supporters and friends for the 3pm kick off at Rothamsted Park.

Manager Danny Plumb’s next target is the Herts Charity Shield semi-final away from home against Hadley on May 10.

He said: “I am happy to keep up the momentum with the semi coming up.

“The players were sharp today and it is great to get fourth in the league. Last year we were sixth, now fourth so you can see I am looking forward to next season.”

Jimmy Hartley opened the scoring midway through the half when he beat three defenders and fired home. It was quickly 2-0 when Jimmy Hill poked in their second goal of the game.

Hill netted again after blasting home in the second half. Substitute Charlie Gould slotted home the first of two goals and Hartley also scored again.
