A rallying call has been issued by Harpenden Town manager Danny Plumb ahead of the club's first FA Cup tie in a decade next month.

Town will be among 368 teams kicking off this year's tournament on August 6 in the extra preliminary round, when they take the short journey to Cockfosters, who play one league above Plumb's side.

It marks the club's first foray into the FA Cup since a preliminary round defeat to March Town United in 2006, and this year will mark their sixth campaign in the world's most revered domestic cup tournament.

The winners of the tie will go on to play Buckinghamshire-based Chalfont St Peter, who sit two levels above them in the national league system, on August 20, for a place in the first round of qualifying.

But with a fourth-placed finish behind them last season, despite some injury problems, the Town manager said he was confident of giving their hosts a tough encounter.

Plumb said: "Harpenden came fourth in the league last season helped by a very strong performance in the second half of the season. We also overcame setbacks through injuries and players moving abroad so this season I am really looking for a massive commitment from our players.

"It is not quite Wembley but we are going to be just a few miles away in north London, and it would be great if, despite the holidays, people from Harpenden and the villages come and back us. This is a big game for us and we are up for a tough battle.

"I hope our supporters can get along for the home match against Tring because that will be great preparation for the FA Cup."

The game will be played at Cockfosters' Chalk Lane ground at 3pm.
