Townsend Bowls Club defeated a strong Garston side to reach the final of the Griffin Cup.

Garston had to concede the match with one end to play on one of the two rinks, Townsend having an unassailable lead.

The two Townsend rinks were Peter Thomson, David Day, Roger Potter and Peter Armstrong on one rink, Bob Lawrie, Fred Mulberry, Gordon Williamson and Dave Houghton on the other.

In the Top 10 quarter final, Townsend won a closely fought encounter at Hertford Castle by two shots. The four disciplines were shared, the home team winning the single and pairs.

Townsend won the triples and fours. The triples rink was skipped by Gary West with Bob Lawrie and Andy Bates. The fours rink was skipped by Peter Armstrong with Mike Doherty, David Day and Roger Potter.

Meanwhile Harpenden Bowls Club defeated North Mymms in the second round of the Bob Vise Trophy by three rinks to one . 

Noel Roberts won the singles 21-12, Kevin Brazier and David Brooks prevailed 25-14 the triples team of Alan Bostock, Woodie Donoghue and Tony Redford won 22-12. 

The rinks lost by only four shots with John Taylor, Rob Peppiatt, Mike Haslam and Jack Blissett. This now puts Harpenden, last year's winners, through to the semi-final on Sunday, August 24.

Colin Driscoll, Redford and Nick Muir (sub) won the area final of the London and Southern Counties triples competition 18-9 on shots against Woburn Sands.

They now progress to the semi-finals of all the whole competition.
Harpenden's men had a successful away game at Hemel Hempstead winning 83-79 on shots. 

The team included two new bowlers one of whom, John Molson, made top rink with Ian Thomas and Colin Driscoll. 

At the weekend friendly mixed game against Harperbury, Harpenden lost by nine shots overall. Top rink was Jean Clarke, Trevor Clarke, John Taylor and Lesley Tutt.
