Promoted St Albans ended their Herts Division Two B season with an abandoned match against Cockfosters.

The Saints took ten points from Saturday’s game which saw them finish second in the table four points behind Bishop’s Stortford Seconds.

Asked to bat on a green pitch, the side were struggling early on at 17-2, with Mbekezeli Mabuza out second ball in his last innings. Adam Hounslow, with his third fifty of the season and an overall haul of 399 runs, was the mainstay of the opening 20 overs.

Wickets fell at regular intervals as only Rosson, with a steady 28, and a late flurry from Phil Caley, 23 not out, took the side to 160 all out.

In reply, Charlie Smith made the breakthrough before Jacob Winfield picked up two wickets in three balls.

Cockfosters were on 98-3 after 14 overs when the rain arrived and the match was abandoned within an hour.

Harpenden ended the Premier Division league season in fourth place after their rain affected match with Welwyn Garden City.

Harpenden will take on leaders Radlett in their play-off semi-final on Saturday.
