St Albans Hockey Club ladies firsts showed great character to battle back from a goal behind to win 2-1 against Chelmsford on Saturday.

Katie Hockley and Sammie Archer got the goals at Oaklands in a victory which takes them up to fifth in the Investec Conference East League.

The seconds showed similar grit to secure a 2-1 win with the last touch of the game against Old Loughts.

Hayley Payne restored parity after Loughts had taken the lead and Jo Martin completed the turnaround with a fine finish in the dying stages.

The Men’s firsts failed to match the results of their club-mates as they suffered a 4-3 loss against Old Loughts.

Meanwhile, the club’s seconds drew 1-1 with Richmond and the thirds gained a 4-3 victory against the same club.

The fifths were also successful with a 2-1 win over Bedford and the fifths completed the weekend’s action with a 4-4 draw against Bishops Stortford.
