London Colney’s FA Vase adventure came to an end on Saturday as they suffered a 3-1 defeat to Newport Pagnell Town.
Jack Woods’ free-kick saw the sides go in level at the break after Dom Lawless had given the hosts the lead in the third round tie.
Pagnell pushed on in the second half and moved into a 3-1 lead thanks to Kelvin Osei-Addo’s strike and Darryl Smith’s injury time effort.
A breathless start to the game saw both sides threaten, but it was Lawless who broke the deadlock, racing on to a through ball and flicking home.
Colney rallied and Wood’s excellent free kick from a tight angle restored parity via the upright.
The visitors missed a number of chances to go ahead and were made to pay when Osei-Addo reacted quickest to score a poacher’s effort.
With Colney pushing forward in search of a leveller, Newport hit them with a late sucker punch as Smith got on the end of Lawless’ precise pull back to sweep home.
A home match against St Margaretsbury awaits Colney in their next match before they travel to face Hertford Town next Tuesday.
