St Albans Hockey club’s ladies firsts got 2017 off to a flying start as they won their first game of the year 2-0 against Southgate.

Saturday’s victory was secured in controlling fashion thanks to goals from Amie Hone and Adel Sammonds.

Meanwhile, a solitary strike from Victoria Trumpess was not enough to give the seconds victory over Cambridge University as they played out a 1-1 draw at Oaklands.

A tough battle with Letchworth ended in success for the thirds as they secured a 3-2 win thanks to goals from Sarah Mobbs, Liz Cleverley and Libe Fadrique.

Charlotte More was the top performer for the fourths and notched a brace to help her side to a 2-2 draw, while the fifths were held to a goalless stalemate by Chiltern.

The men’s firsts were in dominant form as goals from David Williams (3), Steve McManus (2), Tariq Marcano, Mark Lowden and Matt Davey led them to an 8-1 thumping of Cambridge City.

The thirds were also able to celebrate a win after Andrew Tyler netted a brace to add to strikes from Jack Kelly and Scott App in a 4-0 defeat of Westminster.

Fraser and Martin Jones were on target for the sixths in a 3-2 win against Welwyn Garden City, while there were respective 4-1 and 3-1 victories for the eighths and ninths.
