Title-chasing St Albans Hockey Club firsts moved to the top of the Men’s East of England Premier League with an 8-1 thrashing of Letchworth on Saturday.
With just two games left this season, the Tangerines have every chance of claiming top spot ahead of a decisive clash with Old Loughtonians next up.
Loughts sit second in the table and the result could well decide who is crowned champion.
Both the men’s fifths and sevenths enjoyed victories, recording respective 4-1 and 5-1 wins in their matches.
The ladies firsts experienced a more frustrating weekend as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelmsford.
Adele Summons was on target for the Saints but they could not force a result in a evenly contested match.
Meanwhile, the seconds produced a strong display to claim a 3-1 win over Norwich City.
St Albans’ clinical edge proved the difference for City as Fiona Mulder, Natasha Humphris and Zoe Cole all found the target.
