It has been a mixed week for Townsend Bowls Club in St Albans, with two wins and two defeats from their last four matches.
The bowls team kicked off the week with a County League Two encounter against Shire Park last Monday, which ended in a narrow defeat.
The match was cut short due to the weather, however, one Townsend rink of Bob Lawrie, David Day, Peter Thomson and Roger Potter did win their tie by 17 shots to three.
Townsend defeated St Albans by three rinks to one three days later.
Townsend’s Ron Seymour, Clyde Martindill and skipper Bob Padget convincingly won their rink 22-9, before Christine Hoare, Richard Morgan and Peter Thomson secured the victory with a 22-10 win in their tie.
The bowls club’s good form continued, as they followed that result up with an impressive friendly victory over Welwyn and District on Saturday. Townsend won four of their five rinks, securing a resounding win by more than 50 shots.
Despite this, Townsend couldn’t continue their good run of form, as they were defeated in their final match of the week against Welwyn Garden City on Sunday.
In what proved to be a tight contest, Welwyn Garden City ran out winners by just four shots, with Townsend’s top rink coming from Rena Williamson, Bob Padget and Gordon Williamson, who won their tie 16-12.
