Harpenden Town produced a battling display to come away from their South Midlands Premier Division clash with Tring Athletic as 3-2 winners.

The result keeps Harps in fourth place and they maintain genuine designs on pushing further up the table.

They sit three points behind third-place Biggleswade FC but have played two games fewer than their rivals.

Goals from Harry Hunt and David Keenleyside looked to have given Harpenden a routine win, but they needed a 71st minute effort from Samuel James to be assured of the points.

With Tring coming into the game sitting 20th in the table, Harpenden may well have expected a easy afternoon at the office.

No such luxury was afforded, however, and Tring did their best to upset the form book, but to no avail.

At the time of going to press Harpenden were preparing to face Potters Bar Town in the Herts Senior Cup on Tuesday evening before entertaining Stotfold on Saturday.

Elsewhere, London Colney were unable to match Harpenden’s result as they went down to a 3-2 defeat against Leighton Town.

Leighton have made a strong start to the campaign and are hot on the heels of Harpenden - sitting two points behind them in table.

Alex Condon, Domenico Marsala and Lorrel Smith got the goals for Leighton Town.

The defeat leaves London Colney ninth in the table, but they will be wary of the amount of games they have played.

With 16 matches on the board already, Colney have at least one and as many as nine games more than every other team in the league.

Colney continue their league schedule with an away day against a Holmer Green side currently occupying 16th position in the league on Saturday.

Green lost their last match 2-1.
