Champions begin season with five-star show


In the North and Mid Herts Premier Division, last season's champions, Probuild, continued where they left off with a convincing 5-0 victory over newly-promoted Fairlands.

Probuild's goals coming from Barry Greenaway (pen), Steve Underwood, Dave Clements, Dave Pateman and Luke Gumble.

Asia began the campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Park Street Village 'A' with goals from Brett Hammond and Wayne Bell. Adam Franklin replied for Village.

London Colney 'A' were 3-1 winners over London Road (Saturday)after a brace from Ricky Farmer and another from Ayo Falade, with Jason Lohan netting one for London Road.

Newly-promoted teams Colney Athletic and Potters Bar Crusaders met with Crusaders running out 3-1 victors. Harry Hedges, Michael Nelson, and Marc Mills were their scorers, Andrew Stephens getting Athletic's consolation.

Welwyn Garden City Reserves, under new management, had an emphatic 9-2 win over Premier new-boys Baldock Town Letchworth. Junior Morrison(3),Ryan Foster (2) John Chitondo(2),Lee Gibbs and Leeroy Williams scored for City while Shaun Dugan and Glen Wale netted Town's consolations.

In Division One, the shock result was Probuild Reserves', last year's runner-up, 8-1 defeat to Warriors from Potters Bar, following two early injuries depleting the side to nine men. Warriors' goals came from Steve Eldridge (3), Canor Ozgul(2, Scott Taylor, John Malone, and an own goal.

City Hearts got off to a winning start with a close 3-2 away win at Inn on the Green. Hearts' goals came from Ian Worthington, Gareth Brown and James Campbell; Richard Briggs got both goals for the Inn.

Kings Sports Reserves had a comfortable 4-0 win over St Ippolyts. Sports goals came from J.Pilkington, J.Gibbs, A.Appadoo and an own goal.

The newly-formed Welwyn Garden City 'A' played their first game and ran out convincing 3-0 winners against Global with goals from Prince Alozie, Nevcev Valdo, and Courtney Harris.

St Albans Youth Disability's venture into the league met with a 5-0 defeat against local rivals St Albans Wanderers. The scorers for Wanderers were Richard Francis (3), Noah Evans, and Oliver Gent.

Bedwell Rangers and Wodson Park Seniors had both originally applied to the league as part of the under-21 strategy, but decided stay with the league when the separate division did not materialise. They met each other on Saturday when a goal from Ross Bowdell gave the Seniors a hard-earned 1-0 win.
