Jubb makes great Strides to book World Championship place

ST ALBANS' Mike Jubb will take his place in one of the most gruelling competitions in sport after being named in the Great Britain Elite squad which will take part in the ITU Duathlon World Championships in Geel, Belgium, later this month.

The St Albans Strider and Tri-Force Herts athlete finished second in his age group in the World Championships last year in Switzerland, but impressive showings since have propelled him into the elite squad - the first time a Tri-Force competitor has competed at such a level since triathlete Sian Brice's Olympic appearance in Sydney, 2000.

"I'm absolutely delighted and really looking forward to it," said Jubb, 33. "I'm looking for a top-20 finish but anything above that will just be a real bonus."

Jubb is currently in Loughborough in intensive training, training with team-mate Martin Yelling - husband of British Olympic hopeful Liz.

However, there was cause for a double celebration in the Jubb household as Mike's wife Gill also recieved a call-up to the World Championships, where she will compete in the age group event.
