Harpenden skier Max Baggio is taking part in the European Youth Olympic Games for Team GB in Romania this week.

The 17-year-old travelled to Brasov in the Eastern European country as part of a five-strong squad for the Games which are currently taking place.

Baggio is a member of the British Alpine Ski Team and has cemented his position in the Team GB squad with a string of brilliant performances over the past 12 months.

He topped the podium at both the English Alpine Championships and the British Alpine Championships last year and also recorded the fourth-fastest Giant Slalom time in Villars Gryon.

He is ranked as Team GB’s number one junior skier and has had to juggle his skiing with his studies which, up until now, has not had an adverse effect in either discipline. The youngster is part of Team Evolution who provide facilities for Baggio to work in.

Baggio said: “After being injured last year, this season I feel really well prepared and ready to represent Team GB at the Youth Olympics. I am happy with my training and I know that I have a good shot at doing well.”
