Tony Coton, arguably Watford's finest ever goalkeeper, joined Manchester City for £1m.
Having spent two seasons with the Hornets in the second tier following relegation, few begrudged him the pursuit of his desire for first division football.
He had won the Watford Observer's Player of the Season award for the third time the previous season, earning all of the other players' votes.
