Javier Pereira has joined Watford as an assistant coach to Hornets boss Oscar Garcia, who is looking to make one further addition to his coaching staff.

Pereira, 48, moves to Vicarage Road from Real Valladolid, who were relegated from the Spanish top flight last season.

The Spanish coach joins Ruben Martinez in Oscar’s backroom team and the Golden Boys boss has confirmed there will be a further addition to his staff.

Martinez was a goalkeeper coach at Brighton & Hove Albion before joining the Hornets and Oscar clarified his role at Watford yesterday (Thursday).

He said: “He will not be a goalkeeper coach. He is a scout and can do a lot of things. He was an assistant coach in my first year at Maccabi.

“He started as a goalkeeper coach but only at Brighton was he actually a goalkeeper coach.”

Oscar confirmed goalkeeper coaches Paolo De Toffol and Alec Chamberlain will remain with Watford in their current roles.

He added: “I want to mix the staff. I don’t want to sack anybody or fire anybody. I want everyone to work together because I think that is the best way to have success.”
