Watford took on Manchester United in a first division encounter at Vicarage Road.
United, in the final months of Ron Atkinson's reign, had lost three in five; Watford added to their problems when Nigel Callaghan robbed Paul McGrath in the 74th minute and fed substitute Iwan Roberts, who drilled the first of well over 200 career goals past Chris Turner to score the only goal of the game.
