“This is one of the greatest days of my life," Sir Elton John told Watford supporters after the club's newly built stand was renamed in the former Hornets chairman’s honour.
The world famous musician attended the Golden Boys' game against Wigan Athletic this afternoon. Prior to kick off the 67-year-old walked out of the stand which emblazons his name and spoke to the Watford fans inside of Vicarage Road.
He said: “This is one of the greatest days of my life. When I was six years old I used to stand over there (the Rookery Stand) on the terraces and I never thought I’d have a stand named after me. I never thought I’d sit in a stand.
“My years at the club were so magnificent and the memories are magnificent. All the people in football were magnificent. The home supporters, the away supporters, the chairman and the board of every club I went to showed me so much love.
“I love football and I always will. Watford is embedded in my heart.
“I would like to thank the Pozzo family for moving this club forward into the modern era. The club is in safe hands and we are one of the top 25 clubs in England.”
Sir Elton added: “I salute the Watford fans who have given me so much love over the years. Let’s continue to have success. Let’s get to the Premier League and look at this ground now, can you believe it?
“Thank so much. Come on you ‘Orns.”
