St Albans City Youth’s Mervyn Morgan was presented with a lifetime achievement honour at the Herts Service to Sport awards last week at the University of Hertfordshire.

Morgan has been with City Youth for almost 30 years, during which he led a number of key projects for the club such as introducing the pitches at Highfield Park and the All Weather Pitch at Nicholas Breakspear School.

He said: “This is a great honour but there are many deserving people within the club.”

Beaumont School was the runner-up in the secondary school of the year at the awards ceremony.

The St Albans-based school was second in the category while St Albans City Youth's Laurence Wilson was third in the Under-21 volunteer of the year (The Nadine Mehta award).

Annie Seymour was second for St Albans Special Olympics in the Paul Pearce Award Contribution to Disability Sport.

Derek Beaumont, from Beaumont Diving Academy, won the BBC East Sports Unsung Hero Award for the eastern region. He was at the BBC Sports Personality of the year Awards in Glasgow on Sunday night.
