Watford have told Bolton Wanderers Keith Andrews' future lies away from Vicarage Road but the Hornets will continue to pay for the loanee unless he finds another club.

Andrews fell out with Golden Boys' head coach Slavisa Jokanovic at the beginning of December and has not trained with the club for the last two weeks.

We understand Bolton refused Watford's request to terminate Andrews' loan deal and the Hornets will continue to pay half of the Republic of Ireland international's reported £25,000-a-week wages, as previously agreed, until the end of the arrangement in May.

Such contractual agreements are common practice in football and Millwall are in a similar position with Mathias Ranegie until January 1, despite the striker returning to Watford last month.

Andrews, like Ranegie, is unable to play for his parent club until the end of his loan agreement, unless it is terminated, and new Bolton manager Neil Lennon does not expect him back at the Macron Stadium any time soon.

Jokanovic confirmed after the Fulham win on December 5 that Andrews had been left out of the previous two squads due to regulations which only permit five loan players in an 18-man squad.

Andrews was the one sacrificed in favour of Crystal Palace loanee Adlene Guedioura, who joined the Hornets three weeks ago.

The midfielder was a pundit for Sky Sports during Watford's win at Fulham and told viewers he did not know why he had been left out of the squad.

After the game, Jokanovic said: "This is my decision. I decided to separate Keith Andrews from my team. He didn’t understand my decision, he probably didn’t understand me very well and probably had some problems when communicating with me."

He added: "He probably had some problems with communication, he doesn’t accept some of my decisions and he doesn’t understand that being a professional player is sometimes on the pitch, sometimes in the stand and sometimes on the bench. I made the decision to separate him from the squad."

Andrews also claimed Jokanovic does not know his best XI and that he had been left in the dark regarding his future.

On Thursday Lennon confirmed he had not spoken to Andrews or his representatives. It is unclear if that has since changed.
