Troy Deeney is “100 per cent ready" to face Reading on Saturday despite suffering a knee injury against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The Hornets captain collided with Latics goalkeeper Scott Carson midway through last weekend’s 2-1 victory.

Despite Deeney playing the remainder of the game, and scoring the winning goal, he was limping after the win and posted on social media website Twitter on Saturday night: “When you’re trying to chill out but your knee is swelling by the second. Cheers Mr Carson.”

Asked about the condition of his captain this afternoon, head coach Slavisa Jokanovic allied any fears.

“Deeney is 100 per cent ready. He has worked all week with us without any problem. He is working very well and his mentality is at a high level. He is in a good moment and I hope he can stay in this.”

The Serbian believes Saturday’s visit to the Royals, now managed by former West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke, will be significant.

He stated: “We hope we can continue our good form. This game might be the most important game since I arrived at Watford. We had a negative run on the road but now we have the chance to win a match away from home which can help us for the rest of the season.

“So I repeat, it is the most important game since I arrived here at Watford.”

Clarke, who was placed on gardening leave by the Baggies last December, finished playing at Chelsea in 1998, two years before Jokanovic moved to Stamford Bridge.

“I have crossed him many times,” stated Jokanovic. “I knew Steve when he was coaching the youth teams at Chelsea when I was there.

“His career has gone up and he has managed at many important clubs. He is a proper guy and is a quality coach.

“I expect he will do a very good job but I don’t think he is going to start very well.”
